Center for Social Concern

About

About the CSC
The Center for Social Concern fosters a lifelong commitment to active citizenship by integrating education, action, and reflection. We believe that EDUCATION is crucial for ethical community engagement. We believe it’s important to take ACTION in the lives of our communities. We believe that participating in REFLECTION and discovery is transformative to every students' career at Hopkins and beyond.

In order to achieve this mission, we have developed programming that combines education, action, and reflection for a truly transformative experience. We offer a plethora of experiences that will fit your interest, ranging from one-on-one tutoring sessions with Baltimore City School students to cleaning up a community garden to participating in a year-long fellowship program, and many more. Through all of these experiences, you’ll gain a better understanding of Baltimore neighborhoods, local initiatives, culture, and leave with a deeper appreciation of your new home and community. You’ll also create meaningful friendships with fellow students who share similar passions for civic engagement, leadership, and volunteer work.

Community-Engaged Campus Partners If the CSC isn't the right fit for you, learn more about a few of our other community-engaged campus partners below. SOURCE is the community engagement and service-learning center for the Schools of Public Health, Nursing, and Medicine. Students who work with SOURCE utilize their services in order to gain practical experience in their field of study. They serve as a recognizable clearinghouse for requests from community agencies for involvement activities and as a focal point for students, faculty, and staff seeking exposure in an urban environment. SOURCE is also available to expand resources for faculty interested in service-learning and community-based interdisciplinary research, education and practice on the East Baltimore Campus.
