About
Your computer skills can do amazing things for your community!
Austin Free-Net exists to provide technology training and access to the community. We foster skills that enable people to succeed in the digital age, and we need your help! As a Computer Lab Volunteer, you will work one-on-one with Austin neighbors, supporting them through their goal of becoming independent computer users. Rather than formatted class sessions, community members come to the lab with a goal and a desire to tackle it. Most folks in the lab won't need one on one assistance; however, some individuals will need some guidance.
Examples of assistance include using email, searching for jobs, applying for jobs, creating a resume, using Facebook, and other critical digital tasks members of the community need help with.
You will receive extensive intercultural experience and be able to develop and utilize teaching and communication skills. You will receive personal training before your placement as well as consistent support from staff and the Austin Free-Net volunteer community. Most importantly, you will make a difference in the lives of individuals and families in the community. Proficiency in a second language is preferred but not required.
